Stickers are a staple of advertising for a reason: They come in many shapes and sizes; they’re colourful and eye-catching; they’re effective. From small to extra large, custom stickers are a great way to advertise your business, personalise your products, or capitalise on events and holidays. Our stickers use only the highest quality vinyl and adhesives, and our process is well-suited to printing your customised designs. GD Print makes a wide variety of stickers for your personal or business needs, and we love helping you bring your digital designs to life.

If you’ve ever wondered how business stickers are made and how we translate your designs into the finished form, you’ve come to the right place. This article is a guide to how GD Print turns your ideas into the little stickers, big stickers, and every other kind that you see plastered on business windows, vehicle bumpers, and more.

We’ll also give you some tips on how to choose an effective advertising design and how to create stickers that truly speak for your brand. Promotional messaging is all about perception and creating eye-popping designs that customers can’t help but see.

Stickers are one part printing, one part design, and each is just as important as the other. At GD Print, we’ve mastered both and want to help you understand what makes a great sticker. Read on to learn more about how they’re made and how to make them work for you and your business.

Getting Into a Sticky Situation

Whether small or large, custom stickers are made with the same basic process. We print our stickers on an eco-friendly HP printer, so you can always feel good about the way our products are made — no worries about excess plastics and harmful chemicals here! After you’ve chosen your design (more on that below), our experts take your design and digitally print it on a 100-micron, white vinyl sticker sheet. The sheet features a self-adhesive strong enough to keep even the largest personalised stickers in place.

The decision points don’t end with sending your design off to be printed. GD Print offers full customisation to fit every customer’s need. You can also choose the perfect cut for your stickers: square, portrait, and landscape. Or let us cut your design to a custom shape. Circle-shaped stickers are popular, but for promotional purposes, stars, rainbows, animal shapes, and many others are also common.

Depending on the type of sticker you choose, we have glossy vinyl or textured matte vinyl finishes. Each finish serves different purposes, but the overall sticker quality is the same no matter what kind of vinyl you choose. We also offer air-release gloss vinyl options, clear self-adhesives, and reverse prints for windows. With GD Print’s eco-friendly HP printing and quality materials, you’ll never have to deal with another cheap sticker design again.

Another option to consider is whether or not to laminate your stickers. Lamination can help with big stickers because their greater surface area exposes them to more damage, but as always, it’s about what fits your needs.

We print large custom stickers on sheets, as well, with shapes circles, squares, rounded corners and more. These also come in gloss or matte and are good for very large sticker orders.

Once the stickers are printed, it’s up to you where they go!

Tips for Choosing Your Design

You may already have a design in mind, but here are some tips we’ve found for creating a more effective design. Whether you’re using stickers as promotional tools or as a fun little extra for a party or event, you’ll still want to follow some basic design guidelines to help give them that pop you’re looking for.

Size does matter, but even small stickers can help you live large. Designing custom stickers starts with their use: creating a design for a birthday party is a lot different than a sticker meant for a big company event — unless, of course, the event happens to be an important birthday party! In choosing the size of your stickers, we find it better to err on the larger side because you want to have plenty of room to convey your message.

While having a larger canvas to present your message is nice, don’t go too crazy with the designs and try to fit too much into the space just because it’s there. A too-busy design will actually turn away the eye rather than catch it. In design, simplicity can speak volumes.

Pick a theme and run with it. When appropriate, choose bold colours so that your design stands out instead of fading into the background. Try to keep any messages simple and to the point: a few words and/or an easily recognisable image. Use colours with a strong contrast for better readability and a more striking image. When using stickers to promote brand recognition, we recommend adding your logo in a way that’s easy to identify.

Don’t worry if design isn’t your thing: Our professional graphic designers can help you create just the look you want. Why spend the time or money on large custom stickers — or any size for that matter — if you’re not completely happy with the design and, of course, the printing?
